Fineline assist in the production of Take That's 100' high stage prop

Working with stage event specialists 'Total Solutions', Fineline helped create parts for what has become the UK's biggest tour in history.

Take That's management team required a 100' high by 150' wide model robot to act as a centrepiece for their Progress tour.

After making a painted scale model we only then realised the colossal scale of the project. 800 sheets of 9mm birch ply were ordered in to cut some 1500 triangular patterns to produce the faceted outer skin of the robot. This was done using our 2 Gerber-Sabre flat bed CNC's.

Total Solutions built an aluminium framework around our panels which could be fixed to a huge internal structure. The ears were cut using our 5 axis CNC from HD polystyrene with an aluminium frame embedded inside, this was finished back and given a 5mm coating of tough coat polyurethane.

This was then again finished back smooth before being painted. All this had to be done on a very tight timescale and as each robot took so long to erect they decided they would need an extra one to leapfrog the venues on the tour so we ended up making 2!
