John Lennon Face

Fineline were proud to have created the centrepiece for the London Olympics closing ceremony.

A 9m x 5m sculpture of John Lennon’s face split into 101 separate parts all mounted on different length poles to be carried into the arena and positioned together to create the stunning image. Each segment had to interlock with those around it and produce a continuous curved surface. The split lines had to curve so each piece was machined on all 6 sides to include detail on the bottom as well.

Once machined we coated the segments in a polyuria hard plastic coating and imbedded an aluminium receiver for the pole. The overall effect was stunning, choreographed brilliantly to ‘Imagine’ and broadcast live to over 1 billion people!
